My name is David McMurtry and I am a motivational speaker and coach. My purpose is to motivate, inspire and ignite in others a lasting sense of motivation that not only allows them to live the life of their dreams, but leave this earth having made a positive impact.

I wanted to say THANK YOU! Thank you so much for the story you shared. It really hit home for me. Hearing your story helped me feel better about myself and my struggles. Your story touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes. For once I didn’t feel alone or feel less of a person. I really admire you and you going for your dreams! You are truly an inspiration!

How did I get to this point?

I, like most of you, have had moments in my life were I was at my core shaken but I came out of it more motivated to live a different life. However, life has a funny way of getting in the way and I often found my initial wave of inspiration soon faded.

It would have been great if I had been born with motivation that never wavered… but I guess that would have taken the fun out of this journey called life. I’ve spent much of my life learning from trial and error. At times it has been easy and things have come to me at the right time. At other times it has been downright painful trying to figure it all out.

However, a handful of caring mentors, teachers, and coaches have guided me in creating a life where I live my purpose and have the motivation to make it last. I now strive to pass these tools on and be that caring teacher for others.

I was enrolled in an education class in college and I realized that I was inspired to be a teacher. A teacher of “what” I didn’t know but I knew I wanted to be a part of the process of learning and self-discovery. My teaching journey has lead me down many paths: at-risk foster care counselor, middle school teacher, high-school coach, life coach and now motivational speaker. The one constant in my journey has been a desire to learn and grow with others.

My life has taught me that lasting motivation is not about a one-time “aha moment.” But rather it is about getting clear on what I want and then taking the daily steps needed to get me where I want to go.
